THE OPPORTUNITY

The Beaux Arts Trenton Battle Monument, commemorating the American victory in the first battle of Trenton is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Among the obvious challenges facing the project is the need to comply with the Secretary of the Interior Standards for the Rehabilitation of Historic Properties and the New Jersey Register of Historic Places Act.

THE CHALLENGE

The less obvious challenge lay below-ground, as the monument’s grounds cover a significant century archaeological site – a pottery which represents an early phase in the city’s rich industrial history
