St Francis College is a liberal arts and science college located in Brooklyn Heights, New York. The campus consists of five buildings with approximately 300,000 square feet of maintained building space.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The college engaged PS&S to perform an energy audit. A focus of the energy audit was to evaluate large equipment for refurbishment or replacement in order to provide a more energy efficient and cost effective basis for the College’s daily operation.

THE CHALLENGE

Much of the infrastructure for the facility was quite old and at the end of its useful life. Upgrades might require a significant capital investment.

THE PS&S SOLUTION

PS&S’ expertise in energy management allowed us to evaluate which Energy Conservation Measures provided the lowest payback and the greatest value to the College. PS&S followed an assessment process that included interviewing key decision makers and identifying maintenance issues at the start of the project. Recommendations included light fixture and window replacements and the replacement of the existing air handling units with new, high efficiency equipment.

In addition, PS&S evaluated technologies for renewable energy including cogeneration and waste heat recovery.
